The I-40 Dragway has been a mainstay in the middle Tennessee region since 1978 when the famed dragstrip opened for business. Since then, this track has seen plenty of big money events, high horsepower cars and provided entertainment for thousands of racing fans through the region. On August 6, 2015, I-40 Dragway exchanged hands to new owners, got a new name, and a huge renovation plan was debuted on the track’s new Facebook page.
Crossville Motorsports Park, LLC purchased the facility, which is located directly beside Interstate 40 in Crossville, Tennessee. Anyone that’s been through this area has probably taken a look off the interstate and seen the facility a few hundred feet down and to the right of the east bound lanes. Along with the new name, the facility will undergo some extensive renovations, updates and improvements. As stated in their Facebook post, “We want to make this place the premier drag racing facility for middle Tennessee.”
The new owners discussed running the remainder of the 2015 season, but after many options, they’ve decided to close the track until next season to begin on renovations immediately. The goal is to have the facility ready for operation and the gates flying open in spring of 2016 to kick off the racing season with a bang.
By looking at the illustration posted, the view of a new racing surface, concrete walls, awnings over the grandstands, improved pit parking and lighting stand out to racers and race fans alike. The track also mentioned improving and lengthening the shutdown area at the 1/8-mile facility, which will open the door to more events and faster cars roaming the pits at Crossville Dragway.
This day and age, it’s a blessing to see the famed, historic 1/8-mile facilities from the past being remodeled and updated to make racing more exciting and safer to all involved. We look forward to covering the remodel of Crossville Dragway and seeing numerous pictures when the renovations begin.
